What is Learn to Play Hockey?

Learn to Play Hockey is an instructional level youth hockey program, designed to give kids ages 5-13 the necessary skills needed to eventually play in the Salt Lake County Youth Hockey League program.

When is Learn to Play Hockey?

The Learn to Play Hockey program runs in four 5-week semesters throughout the year.  With the regular program, classes meet once per week for 1 hour.  New and beginning level students are generally only accepted into semesters one and two. Do I need to know how to ice skate to participate?  Yes, basic ice skating skills are required for participation in this program.  All beginning level skaters should attend at least one semester of the Learn to Skate before signing up for Learn to Play Hockey.

What equipment is required for participation?

Basic hockey equipment is also required for participation in the Learn to Play Hockey program.  This includes hockey skates, helmet/mask, shin guards, elbow pads, hockey gloves, and a hockey stick. The cost of Learn to Play Hockey session includes skate, stick and helmet (with mask) rental. It also includes equipment rental at no charge if needed.  The remaining equipment is available for purchase through the Ice Center pro shop.

Rental Equipment at no charge is available for ages 5 to 13 depending on the players equipment size.
